ADADECO visits CITIC
Last Wednesday, November 22nd, the Brain Injury Association of A Coruña (ADADECO) visited the Technology Demonstrator and the Virtual Reality and Localization Laboratory of CITIC. During the journey, several users, health professionals and occupational therapy students tested the new virtual reality (VR) developments created by researchers at the center.
The applications presented are based on activities of daily living and their purpose is the exercise of physical and cognitive skills that contribute to improving people’s independence in their day-to-day lives.
In the Technology Demonstrator, attendees used the first virtual reality application whose objective is to work and monitor hand strength, through an activity of daily life as common as washing dishes. To do this, the latest VR device presented by Meta, the Meta Quest 3 glasses, and a force measurement system developed by CITIC researchers, which connects via Bluetooth to the VR equipment, were used.
Next, in the Virtual Reality and Localization Lab, a virtual supermarket combined with the Virtuix Omni Pro captive movement system was tested, which allows a total movement of the user. In this scenario, participants were able to practice different common actions in these establishments, such as shopping for products from a list or selecting the right ingredients to prepare a recipe.
During the meeting, the opinions and suggestions of the attendees were collected, which will allow both applications to be corrected and improved in order to achieve the greatest usability and applicability.
