Amparo Alonso brings AI and computational optimization of energy models to scientific forums in Portugal and Norway
The Ramón Areces Foundation has launched the First Edition of the Professors of Excellence program, an initiative aimed at promoting research excellence and international scientific collaboration. This inaugural edition featured the participation of CITIC researcher Amparo Alonso.
As part of the program, Amparo Alonso delivered a series of lectures at three leading Portuguese universities: the University of Porto, the University of Coimbra, and the University of Minho, in collaboration with the CCG/ZGDV Institute. In her talks, she addressed key issues related to the more efficient use of computational resources applied to energy models, highlighting the importance of AI in optimization processes.
International presence
Additionally, on April 3, she participated as a speaker at the international workshop “ML Application in Cross-Scale Energy Transition Studies” organized by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), where she presented the lecture: “Revolutionizing Agent-Based Models: Insights on leveraging machine or reinforcement learning”.
The activity concluded with her participation as an expert in the international panel of the Energy Transition Week 2025, held from April 7 to 11 in Trondheim, Norway. This forum, promoted by NTNU, brings together global leaders in energy, sustainability, and technology to discuss key strategies for the decarbonization of the energy system.
