CITIC from UDC participates in the OSHWDem 2024 technology fair with its Talentos Inclusivos program
A Coruña, October 14, 2024 – The Center for Research in Information and Communication Technologies of UDC participated this past Saturday with its Talentos Inclusivos project in the open technologies fair OSHWDem 2024, held at the Domus Museum in A Coruña. The event, organized by Bricolabs, brought together enthusiasts of electronics, robotics, 3D printing, and the maker culture, highlighting technological accessibility as one of its main proposals.
The CITIC stand, under the Talentos Inclusivos program, showcased various accessible technologies designed to improve the daily lives of people with disabilities. Among the activities, a virtual reality application was presented, where attendees could see how these tools facilitate cognitive skills work for people with intellectual disabilities, and the robot dog under the supervision of Iago Fernández.
Another of the most notable demonstrations was the adapted version of the Mario Kart video game, which allowed participants to play using controls adapted to the trunk or head. This initiative was led by Paula de Santos, who showed how these types of modifications enable inclusion in the field of digital entertainment.
Additionally, Jorge Rivadulla presented the personalized game “Compra con-migo,” specifically designed for people with disabilities, showing how interactive technologies can support learning and autonomy in daily life. Furthermore, Irene Brage offered a painting demonstration with a head support device, providing attendees with an accessible creative experience.
Moreover, at 11:00 a.m., the “Do Re Mi-croPython” workshop was held, aimed at young people between 10 and 14 years old. This activity was conducted by Adriana Dapena, professor at the Faculty of Computer Science of UDC and researcher at CITIC, along with Beatriz Padín Romero, teacher at the Colexio M. Peleteiro in Santiago de Compostela. In the workshop, young participants learned to combine music and programming using MicroPython, discovering the creative possibilities of technology.
CITIC’s participation, through its Talentos Inclusivos program, in OSHWDem 2024 reaffirms its commitment to accessible technology and the promotion of inclusive initiatives, aimed at facilitating the development of technological skills among young people and people with disabilities.
