A Coruña, September 18, 2024 – The Center for Research in Information and Communication Technologies (CITIC) of the University of A Coruña (UDC) hosted a workshop on Wednesday as part of Work Package 15 of the European Digital Naval Foundation (EDINAF) project, which aims to advance the development of cutting-edge digital technologies for the European naval industry.

The event brought together experts and researchers from the naval field, both from CITIC and Navantia, including the Vice-Rector for Research and Transfer of UDC, Jerónimo Puertas, as well as representatives from the companies Indra and Rheinmetall.

CITIC researcher Salvador Naya organized this workshop on Work Package 15 of EDINAF, which included participation from the UDC team coordinated by Luís Antonio Hernández Ibáñez from the university’s Civil Engineering department. This is a pioneering initiative aimed at creating an innovative digital architecture for the ships of the future. The project aligns with the digital transformation of the naval industry, addressing areas such as immersive crew training and the integration of intelligent agents to enhance onboard operational capabilities.

Work Package 15: Digital Training and Intelligent Agents

The workshop focused on the activities of Work Package 15, which includes two fundamental areas:

  • Digital Crew Training Service: Using immersive technologies such as virtual reality, real scenarios will be simulated for crew training, reducing the risks and costs associated with live exercises.
  • Standardization of Intelligent Agents: This component focuses on improving the operational experience through the implementation of real-time intelligent support systems, covering critical areas such as the Chilled Water System (CWS) and radar and Electronic Warfare (EW) systems.

The main objective of the workshop was to coordinate the efforts of the project partners concerning the various tasks of Work Package 15, such as defining the digital training service, standardizing intelligent agents, and developing intelligent agent applications for the CWS and radar/EW systems.
