  • The application period for the new call for proposals is open until October 5.
  • This initiative, part of the MIT-Spain (MISTI) international program, marks a decisive step in CITIC’s internationalization strategy and strengthens its ability to attract top-tier talent in the field of ICT.

A Coruña, September 29, 2025. – The Center for Research in Information and Communication Technologies (CITIC) at the University of A Coruña (UDC) has launched a new call to host students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for research stays to be held during the summer of 2026. This initiative, under the MIT-Spain (MISTI) program, is a key milestone in CITIC’s global engagement efforts and further enhances its capacity to attract excellence in technological research.

The stays will last up to two months and will take place between May 15 and August 15, 2026. The aim is to create a collaborative scientific and technological environment where MIT students can integrate into CITIC’s strategic projects, sharing knowledge with local researchers and actively contributing to solving challenges in high-impact fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Engineering, High-Performance Computing (HPC), Intelligent Services and Networks, and Cybersecurity.

The call is open to CITIC-affiliated researchers, both permanent and non-permanent, who will act as mentors and supervisors for the visiting students. To apply, candidates must complete Annex I of the call, attach an updated curriculum vitae, and send the documentation by email to international.citic@udc.gal . The application period, which opened on September 19, will remain open until October 5, 2025

In addition to supervising and mentoring students throughout their stay, researchers are required to ensure their participation in scientific outreach activities organized by CITIC. Moreover, within ten days of the program’s conclusion, they must submit a results report along with visual materials showcasing the impact of the collaboration.

CITIC leadership emphasizes that this initiative is a strategic opportunity to strengthen the center’s global profile. “Hosting MIT students represents a privileged avenue for attracting top talent, enhancing knowledge transfer, and building scientific collaboration networks that position CITIC as a European benchmark in ICT research,” institutional sources highlighted.

With this new call, CITIC continues advancing its mission to establish itself as a hub of innovation and international talent in Galicia and across the Spanish university system. Notably, four MIT students completed research stays at CITIC for the first time this past summer, participating in strategic projects on artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. During their time, they contributed to cutting-edge developments ranging from sleep medical analysis algorithms to advanced network protection solutions.
