CITIC Researcher Diego Andrade to speak this Thursday at MUNCYT about Quantum Computing as an ally in protecting the planet
The National Museum of Science and Technology (MUNCYT) in A Coruña is hosting a talk on Thursday, June 19 at 7:00 PM titled “Qubits Will Save the Planet: Brief Notes on the Quantum Computing Revolution”, presented by Diego Andrade, a researcher at the Center for Research in Information and Communication Technologies (CITIC) at the University of A Coruña. The event is free to attend until capacity is reached and will also be livestreamed on the FECYT YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/fecytciencia.
In his presentation, Andrade will discuss the highly relevant topic of quantum computing—an emerging technology based on qubits that could help reduce energy consumption when solving complex problems. At a time when artificial intelligence, weather forecasting, and data analytics demand massive resources, this new form of computing offers pathways to more efficient and sustainable solutions.
The speaker will also explain how qubits differ from traditional bits and how this technology can be applied to specific environmental challenges, such as simulating new sustainable materials, improving energy efficiency, or optimizing transportation networks.
Diego Andrade is an associate professor at the University of A Coruña and a researcher at CITIC, where he leads research lines focused on quantum computing, AI, and high-performance computing. With an established career, he has authored more than 40 scientific publications and has participated in numerous national and European research projects..
This event is held as part of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, proclaimed by UNESCO, and coincides with the month in which World Environment Day is celebrated—highlighting the potential of science to drive progress toward sustainability.
