CITIC strengthens its European positioning in Research and Innovation
- A delegation from the UDC’s ICT research center met in Brussels with “Fundación Galicia Europa”
A Coruña, 11 November 2025.- A delegation from the Centre for Research in Information and Communication Technologies (CITIC) at the University of A Coruña—comprising Blanca Padín, Head of Strategy Coordination and Management; Alexia Díaz, from the International Projects area; and Vera Iglesias, representing the CITIC Foundation of Galicia—is in Brussels this week carrying out a work agenda focused on reinforcing the center’s presence within the European landscape.
In this context, the CITIC representatives held a meeting with the Galicia Europe Foundation (FGE), where they were welcomed by its director, Ana Ramos Barbosa, and the Coordinator for European Policies, Vanessa Lobo Casas.
The primary objective of the meeting was to explore potential avenues for institutional collaboration between both entities, aligned with their shared purpose of boosting Galicia’s participation in European research and innovation programmes and networks.
During the session, CITIC presented its strategic positioning and its role as a key player within the Galician R&D&I ecosystem, highlighting its research capabilities in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, big data, and technological accessibility. The discussion also underscored the value of the research staff as a driving force for knowledge transfer and scientific excellence.
The meeting enabled the identification of new opportunities for interinstitutional cooperation aimed at increasing the international visibility of Galician research. In this regard, the “Fundación Galicia Europa” was highlighted as a strategic partner for strengthening the connection between Galician institutions and European Union bodies.
The FGE also addressed the changes introduced in the new Multiannual Financial Framework 2028–2034 for European funding programmes, including Horizon Europe. Emphasis was placed on the growing importance of the defence industry within the European funding landscape and on the need to position Galicia competitively within this evolving context.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continue discussions toward a formal cooperation agreement that will further enhance the European projection of CITIC and the University of A Coruña, ultimately benefiting the broader Galician scientific and academic system.
