A Coruña, April 7, 2025.– The Faculty of Computer Science at the University of A Coruña hosted the 29th edition of the Spanish Olympiad in Informatics (OIE) this past weekend. This algorithmic programming competition is aimed at secondary and high school students from all over Spain and seeks to encourage talent in computer science and problem-solving.
After being held in Madrid for years, the Olympiad began rotating locations starting with last year’s edition. This year, a new feature was introduced: participants extended their stay in the host city.
A total of 41 participants (36 boys and 4 girls) took part, selected through regional Olympiads and an open qualifier. Two students from Galicia were selected.
The Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, and Sports awarded cash prizes to the top 10 participants and the top two female contestants. Students who ranked first, second, and third received 1.000 euros each. Those in fourth, fifth, and sixth place received 750 euros, and those in seventh through tenth place received 500 euros.
The awards ceremony was attended by Ricardo Cao, Rector of UDC; María Belén González, Technical Advisor from the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, and Sports; Fernando Suárez, President of the Professional Association of Computer Engineering of Galicia and the General Council of Computer Engineering of Spain; and Marco Antonio Gómez, member of the OIE Permanent Committee.
