Deep Design Systems, a new spin-off from the University of A Coruña
- A strategic alliance is thus strengthened, bringing together top-tier scientific research with industrial innovation in artificial intelligence, design, and engineering.
A Coruña, 18 December 2025.- The University of A Coruña has, as of this month, a new spin-off, Deep Design Systems (DDS), which has formalized its incorporation as a spin-off, thereby consolidating a strategic alliance that connects world-class scientific research with industrial innovation in artificial intelligence, design, and engineering. The company includes the involvement of José Antonio Iglesias Guitián and Luis Omar Álvarez Mures, researchers at CITIC, whose expertise and track record help reinforce its technological capabilities and knowledge-transfer potential.
DDS is developing the industry’s first Strategic Intelligence Engine: a software platform that integrates engineering criteria, environmental impact, and market needs directly into early-stage concept proposals.
In practical terms, it enables access to information typically associated with later phases of development at the very moment an idea is born—accelerating the validation of trade-offs and avoiding costly redesign cycles. The system is designed to enhance executive decision-making while keeping people at the center at all times.
DDS transforms design from a purely visual process into a point of strategic integration, highlighting more ethical and environmentally conscious production, dramatically shortening time-to-market, and reinforcing alignment across departments.
Currently in an advanced prototype phase (TRL 5), the platform is being co-developed alongside partners specialized in computational science, engineering, and mobility in Europe and the United States. “This milestone consolidates our scientific foundation and accelerates our mission to transform how products are conceived and evaluated,” says José R. López, co-founder and CEO of DDS.
“The UDC, through CITIC, was key to pushing the boundaries of AI and computational science. Together, we are shaping a smarter, more responsible, and more strategic vision for decision-making in industrial environments facing increasingly complex challenges.”
The agreement enables DDS to gain preferential access to research talent, high-performance computing infrastructure, and multidisciplinary expertise in artificial intelligence, computer vision, and numerical simulation—key elements to further strengthen its scientific and technological roadmap.
Through this alliance, supported by the UDC’s Knowledge Transfer Office (OTC), responsible for the creation of knowledge-based companies, the University of A Coruña and DDS become strategic partners, reinforcing a shared mission: to drive a new paradigm in AI-assisted design and engineering, integrating environmental analysis, physical simulation, creativity, and multidimensional decision-making into a single system.
