  • The Applied Mathematics Congress, which will run until Friday, May 24, is supported and sponsored by CITIC.

The Higher Technical School of Nautical Studies and Engineering at the University of A Coruña hosted the opening of the international conference Emerging Trends in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (ETAMM 2024), which will be held until May 24.

This is one of the leading events in the field of applied mathematics, featuring a program that includes talks on topics of special interest, such as the melting of ice sheets, addressing one of the most critical environmental issues of our time, which is vital for preventing and mitigating the impacts of climate change.

The event was presided over by UDC Rector Ricardo Cao and attended by Diana Sobral Cabanas, Councilor for Tourism, Commerce, Markets, Hospitality, and Institutional Relations of the City of A Coruña; Rosa María Crujeiras Casales, Director of the Galician Center for Research in Mathematics and Technology (CITMAGA); Manuel Romero Gómez, Director of the Higher Technical School of Nautical Studies and Engineering at UDC; and Ángel Daniel Arós Rodríguez, President of the conference organizing committee and professor in the area of Applied Mathematics.

The organizing committee includes CITIC-UDC researchers María del Carmen Calvo Garrido and María A. Baamonde Seoane, while Carlos Vázquez Cendón is a member of the scientific committee. CITIC researchers Íñigo Arregui, María González Taboada, Joanatan Ráfales, and María A. Baamonde are also participating as speakers.

The main goal of the conference is to identify new trends in the fields of applied mathematics and mechanics, and their applications to Physics, Engineering Sciences, Biology, and Economics. The congress brings together mathematicians, interdisciplinary scientists, and engineers from around the world, providing an opportunity to disseminate significant and recent results through lectures by top international guests, specialized symposia, and independent talks.
