CITIC Deputy Director Javier Pereira participated in the final roundtable of the national ComCiRed 2025 (Communicating Science in Network) meeting, held at the University of Cádiz. This session, focused on citizen participation in science, brought together representatives of prominent national and European projects to discuss new ways to involve society in research and knowledge-generation processes.

Pereira shared his experience in science communication and his work on initiatives that actively engage the public in science, emphasising the importance of building accessible and emotionally resonant narratives to encourage greater public involvement. During his talk, he stressed the need to go beyond simply transmitting information, advocating instead for two-way communication and for projects that foster shared social responsibility in addressing current scientific challenges.

The roundtable marked the close of the second and final day of ComCiRed 2025, which this year brought together over one hundred science communication professionals and representatives from 70 Scientific Culture and Innovation Units (UCC+i) across Spain.

Organised by the UCC+i of the University of Cádiz with the support of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), this forum has become a key space for sharing experiences, collective reflection, and continuous training for professionals working in science outreach in Spain.
