Launch of the (CYBER)SECURITY Network for Water System Management

14/11/2025 - CITIC
  • The event, to be held on 21 November at CITIC, is organized in collaboration with the INCIBE Chair and may be attended in person or via livestream.

The Centre for Research in Information and Communication Technologies (CITIC) of the University of A Coruña will host on 21 November the launch event of the (CYBER)SECURITY Network for the Management of Urban and Industrial Water Systems, an initiative organized by the INCIBE Chair in Digitalization and Water Cybersecurity of the University of Girona (UdG).

This activity is funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU and the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) through the National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE), under the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Civil Service, through the State Secretariat for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence.

This pioneering chair aims to strengthen the protection of water infrastructures against growing digital threats. The event, to be held at CITIC from 10:00 to 17:30, will bring together representatives from academia, industry and public institutions to address the current challenges of digitalization and cybersecurity across the full water cycle.

This initiative reinforces Galicia’s commitment to innovation, sustainability and the protection of water resources. The event will take place in person and will also be livestreamed. Registration is open through the form available through this link.

The institutional opening will be delivered by Manuel González Penedo, Director of CITIC, and Ignasi Rodríguez-Roda Layret, Director of the INCIBE Chair in Digitalization and Water Cybersecurity at UdG. Throughout the day, participants will present experiences and projects that highlight the need to strengthen the resilience of water supply systems against technological risks and cyberattacks. Among the contributions, the presentation by Jorge José Delgado Martín, researcher at CITEEC (Centre for Technological Innovation in Building and Civil Engineering) of the University of A Coruña, stands out; he will present the Mero–Barcés Basin as a model natural laboratory for sustainable urban water supply management. International researchers Robert Kooij, from Delft University of Technology, and Maarten de Kruijf, from the Dutch research centre TNO, will also participate, offering a global perspective on cybersecurity applied to water systems.

Throughout the event, a roundtable will be held featuring leading experts in cybersecurity and water management, including professionals from the INCIBE Chair, the municipal water company EMALCSA, the University of Santiago de Compostela, and CITIC itself. In addition, the Poseidón tool—developed by Inprosec and Tecdesoft—will be presented. This innovative solution supports compliance with the new European NIS2 directive and enhances the protection of urban water systems from potential cyberthreats.

The event will also include networking and collaboration spaces designed to facilitate the exchange of experiences among participants. The day will conclude with a visit to the MEDUSA #4 platform, located at CITEEC—an advanced simulation environment enabling experimentation with technologies applied to water digitalization and security.
