A Coruña, October 25, 2024 — Amparo Alonso, researcher from the Center for ICT at the University of A Coruña (UDC), participated last Friday in the Coruña Innovate Summit, an event that brought together startups, companies, and professionals at the forefront of disruptive technologies like artificial intelligence, big data, and machine learning. Held at the Cidade das TIC (ICT City), the conference provided a key platform to discuss the challenge of transforming both businesses and society as a whole through these innovative technologies.

Amparo Alonso delivered a talk titled “AI on a Budget: Frugal and Sustainable,” where she emphasized the importance of developing digital solutions that are not only effective but also accessible and environmentally friendly. “Innovation doesn’t have to be expensive. Through a sustainable approach, we can create technologies that make a meaningful impact on society,” Alonso stated during her presentation.

The Coruña Innovate Summit was organized by DataSpartan, with support from the Provincial Government of A Coruña, the Galicia ICT Cluster, the Professional College of Computer Engineering of Galicia, the A Coruña Tourism Consortium, and the Advanced Services Center (CSA).

The event fostered a collaborative atmosphere, encouraging the exchange of ideas and the creation of synergies among participants.

Amparo Alonso’s participation, along with other experts from the business and academic worlds such as Paco Nathan (Senzing), Dimitrios Athanasakis (AstraZeneca), and Fernando Manzanera Pérez (CT Ingenieros), provided an in-depth look into key issues related to digital transformation and the vital role that sustainable innovation plays in developing accessible technological solutions.

The conference began on October 24 with an opening address by UDC’s Rector, Ricardo Cao, and the Deputy for Industry, Business, Environment, Employment, and Demographic Policy, Rosa Ana García López. Over the course of the two days, attendees had the opportunity to learn firsthand how cutting-edge technologies are transforming their sectors, creating new opportunities and competitive advantages across various fields.
