Researchers at CITIC obtain 5 grants from the Xunta for the consolidation and structuring of competitive research units

  • Currently, fifteen groups led by researchers from the center benefit from this line of grants.

A Coruña, August 9, 2024.– A total of five groups with coordinators affiliated with the Center for Research in Information and Communication Technologies of the University of A Coruña (CITIC) obtained this year’s grants from the Xunta de Galicia for the consolidation and structuring of competitive research units and other actions to promote the Galician University System (SUG).

  • Three of them renew the grants for competitive reference groups. These are coordinated by Margarita Alonso (specializing in natural language processing), Luis Castedo (technologies, applications, and wireless data transmission services), and Mario Francisco (research on statistical methods and their application in various scientific fields). They are joined by the groups led by researchers Miguel A. Rodríguez Luaces, Alejandro Pazos, Juan Touriño, Carlos Vázquez, Amparo Alonso, Richard Duro, and Patricia Faraldo, who were beneficiaries in previous calls.
  • Also recognized in this call were the groups coordinated by Carlos Dafonte (area of applied artificial intelligence and “Big Data” technologies, mainly focusing on data processing in Astronomy) and Fidel Cacheda (research on information retrieval, advanced portal architectures, and information systems management) in the category of potential growth groups. Therefore, there are five groups with coordinators affiliated with CITIC that have this grant: those led by Álvaro Barreiro, Javier Pereira, and José Luis Calvo.
  • In the category of excellent researchers, the beneficiaries are José A. Iglesias Guitián and Óscar Ibañez.
