SEGIB selects five Ibero-American universities to develop the “Labs UniversitarIA” initiative
- An assistant for administrative tasks in the university environment, proposed by CITIC researchers Adriana Dapena and Carlos Escudero, has been selected to represent the UDC in this international initiative.
A Coruña, 20 November 2025.– The Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), with the support of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), has launched the Labs UniversitarIA project, an initiative aimed at promoting human-centred artificial intelligence solutions with an ethical, inclusive and contextualised approach, developed from public universities across Ibero-America.
In its first edition, the participating institutions are the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina), the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), the University of Chile (Chile), the University of A Coruña (Spain) and the Technological University of Uruguay (Uruguay).
The UDC submitted five proposals, out of a total of 21 projects presented by the participating universities. All submissions received highly positive evaluations, and ultimately the AsistIA project—proposed by Adriana Dapena and Carlos Escudero, researchers at the Centre for Research in Information and Communication Technologies (CITIC)—was selected to represent our university in this international initiative. The project aims to develop a solution based on generative artificial intelligence to improve academic and management processes within universities.
What is AsistIA?
AsistIA is an assistant for tasks in the university environment that will enable the automatic generation of rubrics from regulations and teaching documents, as well as the agile and systematic production of compliance reports. Its purpose is to optimise academic and administrative processes, and it may also be applied in teaching to support student self-assessment and promote autonomous learning. The project includes integration into institutional platforms and the development of its own chatbot.
The Labs UniversitarIA project represents a unique opportunity to create technologies with a positive social impact, strengthening collaboration among Ibero-American universities.
