Talentos Inclusivos Wins the Science and Human Values Award at the International "Science in Action" Competition

  • The international “Science in Action” competition is open to students, teachers, researchers, and science communicators from the scientific community.
  • Since its inception in 2020, the CITIC program from the University of A Coruña (UDC) has steadily expanded its reach, with the latest edition involving 15 schools from Galicia, over 500 students, more than 50 individuals with disabilities, and the development of 40 technological solutions

A Coruña, October 28, 2024.- Talentos Inclusivos project by CITIC at the University of A Coruña has received  a new recognition for inspiring young people to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) careers and raising awareness of disability issues through collaborative teams tasked with solving technological challenges presented by individuals with cerebral palsy. This time, the CITIC project has been awarded  first prize ex aequo in the “Science and Human Values” category at the international Science in Action competition.

Science in Action is an international competition for students, educators, researchers, and communicators from the Ibero-American scientific community in any discipline. Its main objective is to present science in an engaging and motivating way to spark interest among young people and the general public. Last week, the finalist projects were showcased online, with the awards ceremony held this past Saturday.

Inclusive Science

The CITIC Talentos Inclusivos program has made a significant impact over its four years, creating more than 40 technology solutions designed to enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities, promoting a model of inclusive science that serves the community. In its latest edition, Talentos Inclusivos involved 15 schools in Galicia, engaging more than 500 students and 50 people with disabilities, reflecting its commitment to social and educational inclusion. This recognition in Science and Human Values provides a new boost for Talentos Inclusivos, which continues to work on developing innovative, accessible projects, contributing to a more inclusive society that is mindful of everyone’s needs.

The Science in Action competition has a long history of promoting scientific outreach in Ibero-America, where it fosters creativity and passion for science among students and professionals. Its goal is to inspire new generations and the general public through interactive and accessible experiences, thereby creating a lasting interest in scientific knowledge.

About Talentos Inclusivos

Talentos Inclusivos is a project developed by CITIC (Center for Research in Information and Communication Technologies) at UDC (University of A Coruña) in collaboration with ASPACE Coruña, and is supported by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) of the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities; the Social Council of UDC; the Concello da Coruña; and the Xunta de Galicia through the departments of Education, Science, Universities, Vocational Training, and Social Policy and Equality.

The project aims to spark STEM interest among young people and promote awareness of disability issues by forming collaborative teams to solve technological challenges posed by people with cerebral palsy.

Through this project, high school and secondary students from various schools in Galicia work on finding technological solutions to a series of challenges proposed by ASPACE Coruña, Amencer-ASPACE, and APAMP users.
