A Coruña, April 11, 2024.– The AdaByron Galicia programming contest will take place tomorrow, Friday, April 12, in the afternoon and simultaneously at the three centers of the Galician University System that offer Computer Engineering degrees (Faculty of Computer Science of UDC, Higher Technical School of Engineering of USC, and Higher School of Computer Engineering of UVIGO).
This Friday’s test will seek the best university teams in competitive programming among the three centers of the Galician University System that offer the Computer Engineering degree. The top-ranked teams will represent Galicia in the X National Contest, which will be held at the beginning of July at the Faculty of Computer Science of the Complutense University of Madrid.
In this competition, organized by the Professional College of Computer Engineering of Galicia (CPEIG), the Research Center in Information and Communication Technologies (CITIC), and the three Galician universities, teams of three students enrolled in any of the degrees offered by the organizing centers can participate. They will compete for four hours, trying to solve between eight and twelve problems of varying complexity.
CITIC collaborates with the technological infrastructure of the contest. Through a server at the center that the organization can monitor at all times, a virtual judge will automatically evaluate the solutions provided by the participants. The winning team will be the one that solves the most problems. In case of a tie, the team that completes the tests in the shortest total time will win. The participation rules for the contest are based on the regulations of the regional contests of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC).
The event is supported by technology companies such as Apser, AWS, Clúster TIC Galicia, Denodo, Dinahosting, DXC Technology, PuntoGAL, GDI, Mindata, Minsait, NTT Data, Oracle, Sixtema, and Veritas.
THE CONTEST
AdaByron is a university competition that originated in the Community of Madrid and has been open to other Spanish universities since 2022. This competition measures the programming skills and abilities of university students. The test is a prelude to the international ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Contest), in which teams of three participants, representing their university, work to solve “the most real problems, fostering collaboration, creativity, innovation, and the ability to act under pressure”.
The contest is named after Ada Byron, also known as Ada Lovelace, a 19th-century British mathematician and writer, famous for her work on the mechanical computer.
