The IV PhDay-EIO held at the UDC, a space to share knowledge

  • The first PhDay-EIO held at the Universidade da Coruña adds to the success of previous editions at USC and UVigo.
  •  The event was supported by CITIC as part of its commitment to promoting research talent. 

Last Friday, February 23rd, the IV PhDay-EIO was held at the Faculty of Computer Science of the Universidade da Coruña, bringing together students from the Doctoral Program in Statistics and Operations Research from the three Galician universities.

The meeting was organized by doctoral students from the Universidade da Coruña and members of CITIC: Beatriz Piñeiro Lamas, Blanca Estela Monroy Castillo, Jorge Castiñeiras Rella, Marta Rodríguez Barreiro, Alicia Mascareñas, and Naomi Diz Rosales. It was supported by CITIC of the UDC and the Group of Modeling, Optimization, and Statistical Inference (MODES).

Diego Bolón Rodríguez, a researcher from the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, was awarded the best oral communication prize by the Sociedade Galega para a Promoción da Estatística e a Investigación de Operacións (#SGaPEIO). The quality and communicative ability of the student were valued, and he received the recognition from Dr. Javier Tarrío Saavedra, Vice President of Statistics of #SGaPEIO, and the Organizing Committee of the UDC.

In addition to space for research, there was also time to share knowledge, fun, and uncertainties associated with this stage, with the participation of Dr. Rebeca Peláez Suárez from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid; Dr. Brais González Rodríguez from Universidade de Santiago de Compostela; Dr. Pablo Montero Manso from the University of Sydney; and Dr. David Martínez Rego, co-founder of DataSpartan.

The first PhDay-EIO held at the Universidade da Coruña adds to the success of previous editions at USC and UVigo. The event is an opportunity to connect, share, and enjoy Statistics and Operations Research.
