Alejandro Pazos, CITIC researcher, participates in the VI Conference Anticipating the Medicine of the Future
On December 14, Alejandro Pazos, researcher at CITIC, participated in the VI Conference Anticipating the Medicine of the Future, organized in Madrid by the Roche Institute Foundation. This edition focused on precision vaccines, applications of artificial intelligence and pharmacological research.
At the event, the vice-president of the Roche Institute Foundation, Federico Plaza, highlighted the importance of research into artificial intelligence in the healthcare sector, with the aim of achieving new, more efficient treatments and building a more sustainable healthcare system.
Alejandro Pazos participated in the panel discussion “Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Personalized Precision Medicine”, accompanied by other experts in the field such as Joaquín Dopazo, director of the Computational Medicine Platform of the Progreso y Salud Foundation; Víctor Maojo, professor of AI at the Polytechnic University of Madrid; and Xavier Pastor, head of Clinical Informatics at the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona. It was moderated by Fernando Martín-Sánchez, Deputy Managing Director of Medical Informatics, Digital Strategy and Innovation at the Hospital Universitario La Paz.
In the session, the CITIC researcher highlighted the added value that AI brings to the healthcare sector and that, in order to optimize its use, it is necessary to train medical personnel in these tools. Also, it is important to train specialized profiles in areas such as biomedical informatics or AI in medicine.
In personalized precision medicine, AI can be used to optimize diagnoses, develop new drugs, monitor and treat diseases or anticipate and prevent emergency situations.
These conclusions were set out in the Anticipating Report “Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Personalized Precision Medicine”, in the preparation of which Alejandro Pazos participated and which was published in September.
