A Coruña, November 6, 2024 –
Today, the CITIC welcomed ten students from the Master’s Program in Digital Cultural Heritage at the University of A Coruña (UDC), as part of their course on Applied Technologies for Heritage led by CITIC researcher María de las Nieves Pedreira Souto.
During the visit, the students were introduced to various research projects underway at the center and explored its unique facilities. The day began in the Technological Demonstration area, where they tested Hololens augmented reality glasses. These allow users to experience virtual tours of the CITIC building, visualize the operation of its Data Processing Center, or even simulate a drone flight. They also learned about other research developments, such as an AI-based application for detecting polyps to aid in colorectal cancer prevention.
In the Robotics Laboratory, the group observed demonstrations of the robot dog, which can serve as a guide for visually impaired individuals, and the Summit robot, which can perform tasks related to logistics, transportation, or agriculture.
The next stop was the 3D Printing Laboratory, where they were introduced to the functions of resin, filament, and nylon powder printers. Later, in the Virtual Reality and Localization Room, they explored the OptiTrack motion capture system and applications for virtual reality glasses developed by CITIC researchers to assist individuals with reduced mobility. Finally, they visited the OitoBits Room, a space dedicated to the history of video games, which is currently being prepared at the center.
CITIC regularly opens its doors to student groups to provide hands-on experience with its research lines and activities, aiming to inspire interest in ICT-related fields.
