STEMBach students from UDC visit CITIC

17/04/2024 - CITIC

On Wednesday the 17th, a group of students from STEMBach at the University of A Coruña visited CITIC’s facilities. This Excellence in Science and Technology high school program is designed for both Humanities and Science tracks. It promotes students’ interest in scientific research and directly connects them with university education.

The visit began in the Cloud Room, where a brief introduction about CITIC was given, and the presentation video was shown. In the Technological Demonstrator, using augmented reality glasses, they saw a 3D model of the CITIC building. This model can be enlarged, reduced, or moved freely around the room and highlights the different rooms and laboratories of the center. The humanoid robot NAO, designed, among other functions, as a physical exercise monitor, performed a tai chi demonstration.

The next stop of the visit was the museum dedicated to the history of video games. There, they could play Donkey Kong on the arcade machine. After this, they moved to the Data Processing Center (CPD), where the operation and curiosities about it were explained.

Finally, in the Virtual Reality Room, the last stop of the school visits, they activated the virtual supermarket, designed by researcher Manuel Lagos, to assist in the physical and cognitive rehabilitation of people with reduced mobility.
