This morning, the Administrative Contracting team of the University of A Coruña visited CITIC’s facilities. As is customary in the tours organized at the center, the group learned about the technological infrastructures available to research staff.

The visit began in the Cloud Room, where a presentation on CITIC’s operations was given, and the corporate video was viewed. After this, they continued to the Technological Demonstrator. There, the volunteers tried augmented reality glasses, which, through holographic technology, allow interaction between digital and real elements. Robobo, the robot designed for education, and other items on display, such as the rain gauge developed by researchers at the center, were presented. They activated the humanoid robot NAO, programmable and autonomous, capable of demonstrating tai chi or dancing.

Next, in the 3D Printing Laboratory, they learned about the operation of the printers and the materials used for designs. Before reaching the Virtual Reality Room, where the tour usually ends, they entered the Data Processing Center (CPD), consisting of physical servers on which a virtualization system has been prepared to offer virtual machines to all researchers who need them.

Finally, using the Omni One platform and virtual reality glasses, they tried the virtual supermarket designed by researcher Manuel Lagos. In it, the user must complete a shopping list; its goal is to assist in the rehabilitation of people with some type of motor difficulty.
