
The FIC awards the best Final Degree Projects at its job fair
A Coruña, April 26, 2024.- CITIC participated yesterday in the V Internship and Employment Fair of the Faculty of Computer Science of UDC. This event is aimed at undergraduate and master’s students of FIC interested in internships in companies or starting their research careers.
This Thursday was the last of the three days of the event, which began last Tuesday, the 23rd. In addition to CITIC, companies in the sector such as Aldaba, ITG, Minsait, NTT Data, Qindel, Sngular, Torus, and Trileuco attended this session, where they could give a brief presentation about the company’s profile and what they can offer to the students of this faculty.
At CITIC’s stand, information was provided to attendees about its own internship plan, MestreTIC, and other actions aimed at research or training staff, such as TIC Talk breakfasts or the XoveTIC Congress.
At the end of the morning, the IX Awards for the best applied Final Degree Project of FIC were presented, aimed at students with an Honors grade and sponsored by the Aldaba WIB, CICAS-Sngular, and NTT Data chairs, with the collaboration of CITIC and FUAC. Two runner-up prizes of €500 each and a first prize of €1500 were awarded.
The runner-up prize for the Degree in Computer Engineering went to Lucía María Álvarez Crespo for her work “Amosando o lado escuro das redes sociais: desenvolvemento do primeiro corpus en lingua galega para a detección de misoxinia en Twitter e Mastodon”, supervised by Laura Milagros Castro Souto. For this same project, Lucía won the NTT Data Chair Award “For the most relevant in the field of diversity, social economy, and promotion of equality” at the VI XoveTIC Congress, organized by CITIC in October 2023.
The runner-up prize for the Degree in Data Science and Engineering went to Pedro Redondo Loureiro, for his work “Detección automática de la enfermedad de Alzheimer a partir de imágenes OCT retinianas en ratones transgénicos PS19 tau”, supervised by José Joaquim De Moura Ramos and Marcos Ortega Hortas.
Finally, Jesús Mosteiro García won the first prize for his work “Parallelization of a graph-based multi-view machine learning algorithm”, supervised by Jorge González Domínguez and Juan Touriño Domínguez. In March of this year, Jesús and his teammates from “The High Sleuths” team achieved first place in the CITIC Cyber Competition (C3TF), a day in which students from all over Spain demonstrated their cybersecurity skills.
