The second TIC Talk breakfast of the year brings together more than 30 researchers

27/02/2024 - CITIC

CITIC of the UDC hosted a new session of the TIC Talk breakfasts this Tuesday, February 27th, which aim to enhance research and promote possible collaborations and synergies among research staff each month.

In this session, researcher Blanca Estela Monroy participated, speaking about cure models to predict remission in rheumatoid arthritis in a presentation titled: “Flexible cure models in data science to predict sustained remission in rheumatoid arthritis”. In rheumatoid arthritis treatment, the goal is remission within the early stage of the disease to prevent patients from developing permanent deformities. Therefore, it is important to identify and anticipate possible relapses so that healthcare personnel can individualize the treatment plan. The work of the CITIC researcher proposes the development of predictive models capable of processing large amounts of information, taking into account the patient’s relapse event.

On the other hand, Samuel Magaz Romero, a researcher who presented “Handling uncertainty with Quantum Computing”, explained the importance of uncertainty in the reasoning process of artificial intelligence systems and how Quantum Computing can model and handle this feature. The project presents different operators to group system data and obtain new ones through rule-based deduction, comparing them with traditionally used methods and seeing that the proposed ones are a valid alternative.

The TIC Talk meeting cycle of 2024 started last January at CITIC of the UDC, discussing ICT and health.
