University and High School students get an inside look at innovation at CITIC
The ICT Center (CITIC) at the University of A Coruña welcomed students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, and students from IES Eusebio de A Guarda and the Plurilingual School Compañía de María (A Coruña).
A Coruña, October 31, 2024 –
CITIC recently welcomed two groups of students from the Data Science and Engineering Bachelor’s Degree program at the University of A Coruña as part of its initiatives to bring research and innovation closer to future technology professionals. Additionally, this week, twenty students from the Plurilingual School Compañía de María and eleven students from IES Eusebio de A Guarda, both part of the STEM Excellence Program for top first-year high school students, also visited CITIC as part of a program focused on high-achieving students.
During their visit, students explored ongoing research projects and toured the CITIC facilities. Their experience began in the technology showcase area, where researchers demonstrated various prototypes. Students also got hands-on experience with Hololens augmented reality glasses, exploring different scenarios such as a virtual tour of CITIC and a drone flight simulation. In the robotics lab, they saw demonstrations of a robotic dog capable of creating 3D maps of facilities, an industrial robotic arm commonly used in assembly lines, and the Summit robot, equipped with cameras for external monitoring.
In the 3D lab, students observed resin, filament, and nylon powder printers, while the virtual reality room featured real-life simulations for people with functional diversity, such as a scenario for preparing breakfast.
These visits enable both university and high school students to become familiar with the research environment and gain practical insight into potential career paths in ICT. By engaging with research and technological development, these experiences provide a well-rounded, hands-on foundation for the next generation of professionals in the field.
