A Coruña, May 7th, 2026
The CITIC at the UDC will participate in the Day of Science in the Street 2026, which will take place on May 9th in the Méndez Núñez Gardens in A Coruña, featuring outreach and innovation activities. This new edition has established itself as one of the most prominent events for science outreach in Galicia since it was launched in 1996 by the Asociación de Amigos de los Museos and is currently organised by the Science Musseums of A Coruña in collaboration with the A Coruña Council.
CITIC will have its own stand, where it will run a full programme of activities throughout the day.
Three workshops will take place from 11.00 AM. The first will be “Intelligent and Cognitive Robotics”, led by Martín Naya alongside José Antonio Leis, Francisco Bellas and Jakub Müller. Following this, David Otero will present the session “AI Against Hate”, with contributions from Paloma Piot, Eliseo Bao, Anxo Pérez and Javier Parapar. Finally, researchers Laura Morán, María Merelas Ares and Xosé Manuel García García will lead the workshop “Green Algorithms”.
New activities will take place between 1.00 PM and 3.00 PM. At 1.00 PM, Paloma Piot, Xabier Pérez and Irene Brage will be speaking on CUAC FM. This will be followed by the presentation of the proposal “My Map of the Songs I Remember”, by Hilda Romero. After this, a presentation on the challenges currently faced by the Talentos Inclusivos project will take place, led by Irene Brage, manager of the project, together with the students of the IES Ramón Menéndez Pidal de Zalaeta, one of the schools participating in the current edition of the programme. Next, Xabier Pérez, together with researchers Clara Valle, Andrija Zupic, Ángel Regueiro and Mateo Fernández, will lead an activity focused on solar observation and the detection of sunspots using artificial intelligence, as well as the exploration of the galaxy through the Gaia space telescope and virtual reality.
Later in the afternoon, between 3.30 PM and 7.00 PM, Adriana Dapena will lead the session “Induction, circuits and ICT for project development”, alongside Óscar Fresnedo, Paula Castro and Liz Gámez. At the same time, between 4.00 PM and 7.00 PM, the session “Artificial intelligence to improve women’s health: application in urinary incontinence” will take place, led by Javier Pereira alongside Jorge Rivadulla, Freddy Pérez and Isabel Tuñas, demonstrating how artificial intelligence-based technologies can be applied in the healthcare sector to improve quality of life.
Science in the Street Day aims to bring science closer to the public, particularly younger people, through participatory activities in which learning is transformed into a fun and accessible experience that encourages direct engagement with scientific knowledge in an open space.
