Students from 1st and 2nd year of Bachillerato at Colegio Manuel Peleteiro (Santiago de Compostela) had the opportunity to learn about the work of the ICT Research Center (CITIC) of UDC this Wednesday, April 17, as well as the “Advances and Challenges of Artificial Intelligence”.

CITIC is a research center created to provide scientific knowledge and its capabilities to society, recognized for excellence in the knowledge generated in the ICT field and technological transfer to society, as explained by CITIC director Manuel Penedo to the students. The director also talked about the research areas developed at the center, as well as the main active projects, unique infrastructures, and CITIC’s commitment to society through the promotion of various pioneering initiatives such as the Talentos Inclusivos program.

CITIC researcher Verónica Bolón gave the lecture “Advances and Challenges of AI,” in which she spoke to the students about how Artificial Intelligence is transforming society and the ethical and responsibility challenges we face, such as reducing the environmental impact of software applications and using them to find sustainable solutions. Verónica Bolón is also the coordinator in A Coruña of the Inspira STEAM program, which aims to promote scientific-technological vocations among students, especially girls.

After the lecture, a small colloquium took place, where students could ask their questions to the CITIC researcher and also conduct an interview by the Colegio Peleteiro press club.
