The CITIC of the Universidade da Coruña will host next Wednesday 28 January, at 12:00, the conference entitled “A scientific-practical approach to green AI”, delivered by Rubén Cuevas, Associate Professor at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Deputy Director of the UC3M-Santander Institute of Big Data, and CEO and co-founder of the technology company Hiili. The event will take place in the Cloud Room of the ICT Center.

The talk is part of the series “Green Convergence: AI for a sustainable future” promoted by the Inditex-UDC Chair in Green Algorithms and will address one of the main current challenges in technological development: the high consumption of energy and water, and the carbon emissions associated with generative artificial intelligence. This environmental impact, increasingly documented and socially acknowledged, raises significant challenges in view of the expected growth of these technologies in the coming years.

During the session, Rubén Cuevas will present the methodology developed by Hiili to accurately measure the energy consumption of generative AI models, a key aspect for moving toward more efficient and sustainable systems. Based on this approach, GreenBrainAI will be introduced, a solution designed to optimize the use of genAI models, maintaining performance for end users while significantly reducing energy consumption.

Rubén Cuevas is the author of more than 80 international scientific publications and has participated in more than 40 research projects, leading more than twenty of them. His work focuses on energy-efficient digital services, online advertising, web transparency and privacy, and has been recognized with various national-level awards.

The conference is aimed at the university community, professionals in the technology sector, and anyone interested in the responsible and sustainable development of artificial intelligence. Admission is free until capacity is reached, but requires prior registration through this link.
